DAILY FANTASY SPORTS APP
Revitalizing a Daily Fantasy Sports App

Project Description
OwnersBox is a fantasy sports and media company looking to create an intuitive and engaging Daily Fantasy Sports experience.
Timeline
From exploration to final designs in 4 weeks.
Background
Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) has long been mired by professional players who run optimized lineups and overwhelm contests with huge bankrolls, ensuring they end up on top. Apps have been tailored to this kind of user, leaving the experience for casual users to suffer.
Process
This details the step by step approach I took when doing this project.
Research & Planning
We ran a survey to understand, based on our current product, what our shortcomings are, but also what we were doing right. The last thing we wanted to do was fix something that wasn't broken. The results of this survey informed our competitive analysis to understand where a gap in the market exists. We also ran workshops with internal stakeholders from various departments to understand what business goals we could help accomplish.
Design & Prototyping
This project ran simultaneously with a UI overhaul and the onboarding of two junior designers so it was critical for us all to stay synchronized with regular check-ins and reviews. Along the way we tested with users and internal stakeholders, and iterated based on their feedback to ensure our designs did in fact address their goals.
Handoff & Implementation
We worked with development to implement the designs on a tight deadline, prioritizing features based on technical feasibility and our surveys with users.
Testing
We launched our designs through an invitation-only beta, testing across devices to ensure compatibility and performance while also gathering user feedback and heatmaps to iterate and optimize based on usability metrics and user satisfaction.

Solution
The resulting experience is optimized for players who want to casually enter a contest.
Stronger Visual Elements
We wanted to emphasize bold, engaging visuals throughout the design to retain attention of casual players. This involved prominent contest graphics, bigger player headshots, and progress charts when contests went live.
Seamless Lineup Creation
We strategically deviated from the tedious industry standard lineup creator to a more seamless all-in-one experience.
Improved Player Card
Improved player card giving everyone access to the key stats needed to make decisions.
Results
Here are some of the highlights of what we accomplished with this design.
Increased Efficiency
Metrics have indicated improved efficiency in key tasks such as entering a contest and building a lineup.
Positive User Feedback
This design has received praise from various industry leaders while a large number of users have also reached out saying how much they enjoy the changes. Our CSAT for our Salary Cap product also increased nearly 2 points.
Growing User Base
We have enjoyed a nearly 20% increase in users from the same time period last year under the previous experience.
